Research Assistant (Hourly) – summer 2024

Durandal Lab in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Research Area: highway vehicle speed estimation

Web Application (1 student, on campus is preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop both the backend and frontend of web applications, with a focus on Amazon Interactive Video Service (Amazon IVS).
  • Collaborate with team members to design and implement efficient video data transmitting pipelines.
  • Assist in testing, debugging, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in full-stack web development.
  • Experience in AWS.
  • Proficiency in using Flask
  • Ability to write HTML and CSS files for frontend development
  • Experience in handling video data and familiarity with FFmpeg
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Experience with live streaming technologies and Amazon IVS is preferred.

Research Area: pose estimation in construction.

Data collection and annotation (1 student, on campus)

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in operating the Vicon motion capture system for data collection.
  • Perform data processing tasks using software according to project requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of algorithms for data processing.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in operating hardware and software, with the ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies.
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Knowledge of camera calibration and point cloud projection algorithms for data processing
  • Strong attention to detail and patience in performing repetitive tasks
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Prior experience with the Vicon motion capture system is preferred.

Albireo Energy is looking to hire an entry level EPMS, BMS, controls or PLC engineer to join our team in the exciting, essential and expanding field of building and maintaining power monitoring systems for data centers and other critical power applications. The ideal candidate would have a strong knowledge of / interest in electrical & control systems, network troubleshooting, modbus and/or BACnet who has the ability to learn in the field, communicate and coordinate with others, write technical site visit reports, support projects and is willing and able to learn new software packages to support the design, commissioning and maintenance of critical power monitoring systems in and around New Jersey (NJ).

We are looking for candidates with a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited 4 year institution. Demonstrated field experience may substitute for education. On the job training, shadowing, etc. is available for the promising candidate.

Tutors Needed! – The Office of Academic Services for Student Athletes is looking for qualified students to tutor computer science classes for the Fall 2024 semesters and beyond. The course we have the most need for tutors for is Computer Applications for Business (198:170). You do not need to have taken that course in order to tutor it – typically computer science majors are able to help with this course because of their familiarity with the material. The hours are flexible.  Minimum commitment of four hours/week required. Undergraduate student pay begins at $15/hour, graduate student pay varies based on level of education and experience.

There will also be some options for tutoring over the summer for particular classes, though the need is much more limited than in the fall. If you will be around over the summer and are interested in tutoring over the summer as well as the fall, please let me know when you apply.

  • Tutors must be interested in teaching other students!
  • Tutors communicate about course material with students and maintain knowledge of course information.
  • Tutors meet with their assigned students at the Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center on Busch campus every week.
  • Tutors work on effective study strategies in their sessions.
  • Tutors maintain reports and accurate records of sessions and progress of the assigned student athletes.
  • Must have 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA to be considered.

OPEN TO CS SENIORS: Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence plans to host the second SureStart cohort at Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Colby College after the successful first run in summer 2023. SureStart is a structured program in which undergraduate students learn AI skills (supported by one-on-one and group mentoring), and then work in small teams to build AI-based solutions to real-world problems with the support of a dedicated team mentor. Throughout the program, students learn from and network with industry experts. The Colby SureStart 2024 cohort is open to any Colby College student who has taken at least one programming course (e.g. AP computer science, intro to R, intro to Python). 10 participants will be selected and work on campus during the summer and are nominated by their academic advisor.

Currently recruiting an AI mentor for the SureStart 2024 program at Colby. Candidates must be:

  • A computer science/engineering MS or PhD student with teaching experience (preferably as a teaching assistant, but other experience will be considered as well).
  • Proficient in Python/familiar with R, machine learning, and data science concepts.
  • Good communication skills, and has good classroom management skills.
  • Must be able to commute to Waterville, Maine, or relocate during the program (two options: 28 May through 31 July, or 28 May through 30 June).

The AI mentor will be paid $25-$30 / hour for up to 30 hours/week, and provided with housing.

The Laboratory for Computer Science Research (part of the Computer Science Department) is seeking motivated Rutgers students who have personal and professional experience in web application development.

Starting as soon as possible.  Compensation is $15-25/hr with 12-20 hours/week available during the semesters and 20-40 hours/week available during the Winter and Summer.  Multiple positions available.

Preference will be given to those who can continue to work over the summer of 2024.  If applying, while not a requirement to be considered, please state your ability to work in office on campus.
