Overview
Scarlet Labs is an optional year-long program where students in the Coding & Social Lounge (CSL) build long-term technical projects from start to finish in small teams. Each team is assigned an alumni mentor to help them refine and implement their project idea. This program started in Spring 2025.
All current and past projects can be found on the
Rutgers CSL GitHub.
Objectives
This program started to address the growing gap between skills and knowledge obtained in the school setting versus the skills used in the software engineering industry.
Some key skills that participants obtain from the program:
- Learn industry-relevant technical skills and best practices
- Gain experience that students can talk about in interviews
- A full-fledged technical projects for each participant’s resume
- Develop projects that uniquely contribute to the Rutgers community in collaboration with various stakeholders in the university, such as CS faculty and LCSR.
